Last Friday evening and Saturday morning I was invited to Leeuwarden's center for arts Pernas for a guest lecture on landscape photography. During my stay in Leeuwarden I couldn't resist a photographic visit to the historic town center for some twilight shots. It seems like Leeuwarden forgot to turn off the Christmas lights...

As you may already know, I will be one of the guest speakers at the 6th international nature photography festival 2012 in Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem. The festival will be held from February 10 till 11. The Saturday program is already sold out (including my seminar) but there are tickets available for the Friday program. Other speakers are Paul Nicklen, Frans Lanting and my Dutch colleague Ruben Smit. It is a festival you don't want to miss!

The theme of my presentation will be 'Writing with light' and why in my opinion the light in many cases is more important than the subject. I'll be talking about what I call the 'Bird on a stick-virus' and how to cure yourself from this 'disease', commonly spread amongst nature and wildlife photographers. And of course I'll be showing a lot of my work, the story behind the images and the choices I made while taking them. During the festival I will also be selling and signing my latest book.

Yesterday I took the participants of the Masterclass Landscape photography to a popular spot in the north of the Netherlands to catch the late afternoon sun. We had great fun with gorgeous light. Here's a panorama made up of three images stitched together.

Well, it's the start of a new year and I thought it was a good idea to start with something fresh and new. So I grabbed my big stopper and went off to do some long exposure architectural work.

I am having a lot of fun lately with my panoramic head. This image is made up of three images stitched together, each with a 2,5 sec. exposure at f11. I took the images at the Schildmeer in the Netherlands and the sky just begged for a pano.

Nu online, het nieuwe workshop programma 2012 van Bas Meelker Photography. Op bijna alle punten vernieuwd met compleet nieuwe workshops en een andere opzet. Nieuwe locaties, nieuwe uitdagingen. Meer gericht op de gevorderde fotograaf en met kleinere groepen voor een meer individuele begeleiding. Ook nieuw is de telefonische fotobespreking waarin Bas samen een aantal door jou tijdens de workshop gemaakte foto's zal bespreken. Al met al een uitdagend programma voor de landschaps- en natuurfotograaf die de volgende stap wil zetten.

I was going through my image archive for a client today, searching for some winter landscape images when I came across this image. I didn't even realize it when I prepared it for my client until I saw the image date. Exactly one year ago. Hard to believe when you look at the weather we are having now! Nevertheless december 8, 2010 still is one of the most beautiful and memorable winter mornings I have ever experienced. Maybe, maybe we get lucky again this year....

Caught another sunset today at the IJsselmeer. Beautiful quiet end of the day. Great for recharging the batteries after a couple of busy weeks! More in the image library....

Yesterday I gave a presentation in Santpoort for a board of commissioners of a large company about my career as a photographer and my work. It gave me the opportunity to head out to the coast afterwards and I ended up in IJmuiden. Great evening with great light. A bit of a different setting this time....

I've just added six new images to the image library taken on a beautiful foggy november morning (we get those a lot lately...) during sunrise.

I've just got back from a small trip to the Mosel valley region in Germany. It was an epic journey. Autumn is always a great season, but here it's just amazing! On the third morning, nature hit a homerun with a sunrise I've never whitnessed before. It's hard to describe what I felt, standing high on a hill, overlooking such a spectacle. At such times, gazing with awe is all I can do, really (besides taking the shot...). More to come!
